ダライ・ラマが大方の予想通り「脱原発」発言をしていれば、報じるメディアも多かったはずだ。そうならなかったのは、ダライ・ラマのこの発言が日本メディアの予想する「ダライ・ラマ＝環境保護・人権重視＝反原発」というコンテクストから大きく外れたものだったからではないか。「公式」にあてはまらなくなると、彼らはとたんに思考と行動を止めてしまう（森達也監督の「Ａ２」で描かれた通り、オウム真理教信者と教団施設周辺住民の交流を報じなかったことがその最たる例だ）。

　ダライ・ラマより、日本メディアの相変わらずの保守性の方がずっと深刻かもしれない。
